We originally met in high school and kept in touch throughout the years. Fast forward to Fall of 2015. I had texted Jake earlier in the day to see if he wanted to go to a hockey game. Jake never gave me a firm yes or no, he’s a BIG maybe guy. So, I went to the hockey game without Jake and on my way home, I met up with some friends at a bar. There was a large group of people there, including Jake and his date. ( He still denies to this day that he was on a date) Our group all left around the same time and as I’m driving home I get a text from Jake, “where are you going?”
Confused, I look in my rear view mirror and see his car behind mine. I text back, “home.”
I had recently moved into a house in the wood streets in Riverside just one street over from where he lived. The next day, I get a knock on my door and it’s Jake. He saw my car in the driveway and decided to come say hi. From then on, he would stop by everyday, sometimes just to say hi for three minutes and leave. One night while texting, he asked if I wanted ice cream and I said sure. Thirty minutes go by and I start hearing an alarm outside my door. Terrified and living alone, I call him for help and he just says "open your door." I open it to ice cream and a walkie talkie on my doormat. For a while that’s how we communicated to hang out. After a few weeks of hanging out as friends we started actually "dating." A couple months went by and Jake started introducing me to people as his girlfriend, without ever actually asking me to be his girlfriend. Off season came and went and we finally had to have the, "are we actually going to try the long distance thing" talk. Good thing we decided to try it. Five years and two dogs later, he finally proposed.

Just tell people we met in high school and started dating shortly after. People don't care about the story.

Jake had just signed with the Cubs for the 2021 season, our 5 year "made-up" anniversary was coming up, (remember he never asked me to be his gf), and we were about to leave for spring training. Jake had set up dinner at Mastro's in Temecula to celebrate all of the above. He told me to go shopping to get something to wear. I hadn't been shopping in close to a year thanks to COVID. I went shopping with my sister, bought a fancy ass dress, some new shoes and got my nails done. Day of dinner comes, he tells me to be ready at 4:30. I tried on about sixteen outfits and decided on a tried and true favorite, instead of the dress I spent hours shopping for. (Sorry KK) Five minutes before were supposed to leave, he walks in the bathroom with clippers and asks me to fix his hair. At this point, I'm really thinking this is just a normal date night. I thought to myself, he would never ask me to cut his hair right before such a big moment. (lol) On our drive to dinner in Temecula we start heading into the hills, Jake says "I think I'm lost." I quickly type in Mastro's on my phone and the nearest one is over a hour away. I say that, and he laughs. He keeps driving, then turns on to a creepy ass murdery road. We are going up this windy road further into the hills and then he pulls into a random driveway, turns off the car, and gets out. Extremely confused, I am asking over and over, where are we, why are we here. He just walks straight into this house without knocking and my anxiety is through the roof. Inside, there's a chef preparing us dinner with wine pairings. Still confused as to where we were and whose house we were at, I just sit down and start drinking my wine. I keep asking if we are at a winery and if other people are here. He just kept laughing and saying we are here for dinner. It's freezing and we are siting outside. I look up at this balcony area with seating and say " I wonder if there's a fire pit up there." He says, "I don't know lets go look." So we get up from the table and he takes me up the stairs. Candles on each step. At the top, there is a trail of rose petals leading to balcony area. Still, I don't think anything of it. I just say "Oh this is so nice," and sit right down on the couch. There wasn't a firepit in case you were wondering. He is awkwardly standing by the railing and looks around the corner and says "Oh that's awesome, we should put that in our backyard, come look." So I stand up and look around the corner, over the railing to see just dirt. I turn around and he's on one knee. I obviously said yes! Then, we celebrated with our families and close friends who were all waiting nearby.

I told Brittany we were going to dinner for date night and we got dressed up and ready. She looked so beautiful and stunning. Told her we were going to Temecula and then we were driving and she felt like we were a little lost, but really we were going to a beautiful set up I had planned. We pulled up and she was confused, but then we walked in to this amazing house with beautiful views. Then, we had a chef that prepared appetizers and wine, and then the sun started to set. Brittany asked what was up top, and I said I don't know lets go check. This is where I had flowers and candles set up. Then, as we looked off in to the sunset, I knelt down, and I said Brittany Nicole Perry, will you marry me. Then we finished our dinner and our families joined us, and we all had a really great time. It was a blast.
